Dreaming in black-and-white
I've always dreamed in colour so it shocked me a few years back when I discovered that not everyone does. Black-and-white or grayscale dreams are rare, but some people experience them, while others dream in both colour and black-and-white.
The interesting thing about grayscale dreams is that sometimes people don't remember them because of how dull and colourless they are. Colours play a big role in helping a person remember their dream. There are multiple reasons why some people dream in grayscale or why it happens occasionally for others. Normally it happens because the dream is completely devoid of emotion and has no significance for the dreamer. Emotions are what give colour to our dreams and are coded with symbolic and spiritual meanings. It could also be because the person is finding it hard to process the emotions attached to what they are going through in life and have completely repressed them. Black-and-white dreams could also be a sign that a person has lost control of their life and freedom. If someone frequently has these types of dreams, it could indicate that they are more analytical and less emotional in nature. Many studies, however, have suggested a different angle to these dreams. They have found that people who were exposed to more black-and-white media were more likely to dream in black-and-white. This was around the early 1900s when black-and-white media was getting popular. When media became more coloured, people also started to dream in colour more.
It's also rare for grayscale dreamers to suddenly dream in colour. If that happens it could signify that they are going through a very significant emotional change in their life or they're experiencing deep emotions that they've never felt before.
