Staying motivated as a student has gotten harder now more than ever. With increased competition, a lack of interest, various mental health issues, and distractions, it becomes easier to be in a demotivated state than a motivated one. However, it is important for a student to stay motivated to work towards achieving their goals more easily and efficiently.
To be motivated to work and continue doing it, we need to understand the three elements of motivation. They are Activation, Persistence, and Intensity. Activation is the initial urge and decision that initiates your behaviour. Persistence is the continuous effort you put in to pursue the goal and overcome any challenges you face. Intensity is the amount of effort and energy you put in to pursue the goal. The degree to which these motivational factors are present will have a significant influence on your ability to maintain a motivational mindset and, consequently, on your ability to accomplish your goals. If a student is dealing with mental health issues like depression or anxiety, it can be challenging to stay motivated. However, there are a few things that can help. Firstly, setting achievable and realistic goals can make a big difference. It's also helpful to break down your goals into smaller parts that feel more manageable. Positive self-talk can also be a powerful tool to stay motivated. For some further encouragement, you can always reach out to friends and family for support.
When you feel like you've lost your motivation, there are a few things you can do to regain it. Remembering why you set your goals, can help you get back on track and keep you motivated. Reviewing your goals and breaking them down further to make them more realistic will simplify your task and motivate you. Sometimes, taking a break can give you the energy to achieve anything.
